Description of Procedure

After deciding which muscles and wrinkles will be receiving the treatment, ice is used to numb the injection sites. A very small amount of BOTOX® Cosmetic is then injected directly into the facial muscles that cause wrinkles, relaxing the muscle and smoothing away the wrinkles. Surrounding facial muscles are not affected and contract normally. Typically 4-6 injections are necessary to relax the muscles that cause wrinkles around the eyes. The procedure lasts about 5 minutes. Loudoun BOTOX clients often choose to travel to beautiful Winchester VA for treatment.

Risks

There are minimal risks with BOTOX® Cosmetic. You may experience mild bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Very rarely, BOTOX® Cosmetic can affect other muscles in the face, resulting in a drooping eyelid. This side affect is both rare and temporary, lasting a few weeks at most.

Results

Results with BOTOX® Cosmetic are not immediate, taking 24-48 hours to selectively relax the muscles. After this time you will be unable to create those dynamic wrinkles, and the muscles will be relaxed for up to 3 months.

After 3 months, you will need to return for a second treatment. We have found that after a muscle has had 2-3 treatments of BOTOX® Cosmetic, the muscle memory to create frown lines and crow's feet is broken and you may not need to be treated as often. Our hope is that your muscle memory will eventually be blocked completely, meaning no more treatments are needed. However, each patient is different and reacts differently to BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Restylane / Perlane / Juvederm / Juvederm Ultra Plus

These dermal fillers are made up on a hyaluronic acid, which is a non-animal-based, natural susbstance similar to one that already exists in our bodies. This gel is injected into the skin in very small amounts with a very fine needle, producing immediate volume that smoothes wrinkles and folds, shapes facial contours and enhances the lips.

The result is a long-lasting, natural enhancement that is gentle and safe for the skin, leaves no scars, and lasts about 6-8 months.

Radiesse

FDA-approved Radiesse is a dermal filler that is made up of smooth microspheres called calcium hydroxy appetite, a substance normally found in the body. Radiesse provides a simple, natural alternative to invasive treatments that address the common signs of aging and some more serious health issues. It offers superior versatility for cosmetic and reconstructive use without the risks and costs associated with surgery, and lasts about 12-14 months.

ArteFill

ArteFill is a gel dermal filler made up of synthetic microspheres (polymethylmethacrylate or PMMA) suspended in purified bovine collagen, and contains lidocaine (local anesthetic) to reduce discomfort during injection.

ArteFill is used to add permanent support structure and smoothen the treated area. After a skin test is done, ArteFill is injected directly beneath the wrinkle to be treated. The synthetic PMMA microspheres are "non-resorbable", meaning they are not absorbed by the body or metabolized, allowing the treatment to last significantly longer than other injectable fillers - about 5-7 years on average.
